Dr. Marcus Lorenzo Penn, M.D., C.Y.T.

Dr. Marcus Lorenzo Penn, M.D., C.Y.T. brings over 10 years of experience working with diverse populations and age groups as a health and wellness consultant. He has a strong passion for informing people about holistic and medical modalities that support living a healthier life. In this role Dr. Penn helps populations become informed of their own health and empowers them to adopt healthy behaviors that lead to their healing.
His healthcare background is focused on public and community health. His community health experience includes: reviewing community health and medical grants for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; working with the UCSF Radiation Oncology Department as Coordinator of Community Outreach; consulting with the Ethnic Health Institute of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland, CA; and serving as a project coordinator for a Heart Health Study looking at the benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids in African Americans. His local community involvement has ranged from organizing and facilitating Men’s Health & Prostate Cancer Screening Events and Seminars to providing health education for faith-based organizations to participant recruitment for preventive health studies. Dr. Penn continues to promote conscious healthy living practices on local, internet, and national television and radio.
Dr. Penn is a Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT) in the Raja and Hatha yoga styles receiving training through a two-year Integral Health Fellowship with the Niroga Institute in Berkeley, CA. He teaches weekly yoga classes in his native San Francisco Bay Area. As the founder and CEO of Self Care Reform Wellness Consultancy, he focuses on providing tools and strategies for self-awareness, personal transformation, stress reduction and lifestyle change.
Dr. Penn is a native of San Francisco and currently lives in Oakland. Harnessing his many talents as a community health physician, photographic artist, yoga teacher, wellness consultant, workshop facilitator, poet, author, and speaker, Dr. Penn is passionate about living, seeing and moving through life fully and helping others do the same. His travels have taken him to six continents and in 2012, he released his first book on healing photography, Sunset Therapy: A Prescription for Healing.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Minor in German Studies from Morehouse College in Atlanta, with honors, Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Penn received his M.D. from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. and then went on to continue his medical training at Alameda County Medical Center Highland Hospital in Oakland.
